External Impact Intensive

Creating Partnerships That Elevate Your Impact

Leading a charter school organization requires more than excellent internal operations - it demands strategic external engagement that builds sustainable support, secures critical resources, and advances your mission in the broader education landscape.

This two-day intensive is designed for charter school leaders working in increasingly complex environments. Many of you serve communities of color and immigrant families. Many of you are leading organizations in places where the political and social climate feels particularly hostile to public education and to the students you serve. The philanthropic landscape has shifted. Resources are more constrained. The work of building external support, maintaining board engagement, and advocating for your communities requires different strategies than it did even five years ago.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this intensive, participants will be able to:

  • Develop a clear and compelling narrative that communicates their organization’s mission, impact, and value to funders, policymakers, and community stakeholders.

  • Design a sustainable fundraising approach rooted in community relationships, diversified revenue streams, and values-driven partnerships — not crisis-driven survival

  • Create an advocacy strategy that protects their school communities, navigates hostile political environments, and expands their voice in local and state education ecosystems.

  • Equip boards to move beyond governance into true partnership — driving fundraising, influence, and long-term sustainability

  • Map the areas where leaders have actual control and influence, even within constrained systems, and develop an action plan to move forward with confidence.

  • Leave with a blueprint for sustaining both their organization and themselves — preventing burnout and strengthening leadership endurance.
